Dog Kennel Day of Quilting with Lori Holt

It's been a while and I can't tell you how much I have missed all of you my friends! I haven't been ignoring you just trying to catch up on some quilting and getting ready for the annual "Dog Kennel Quilt Extravaganza" that was yesterday. I have so much to share!

I will begin first by taking you to the
 "Dog Kennel Day of Quilting".
Lori Holt and Amy Smart were our teachers this year and they were awesome! Amy was teaching a "Quilt as You Go" table runner which I am sad to say that I was not able to take because we only had time for one class.
Lori was teaching us her "Count Your Blessings"
using her method of applique which is so great.
Here she is instructing us on how to position
and trace our pattern onto tracing paper
for use as our layout.
She takes time to show us how to do it just right
and makes it look so easy!
Amber from a little bit biased joined us
and seemed to catch right on.
She also brought these sinful brownies! Yum!
Here is Aniva getting after it.
Way to go girl!
Kelly and her friend...
Susan also joined us for the day.
Nice to meet them both!
Of course here are some of the Kennel girls...
Jill and Sue...
and our sweet president of the Kennel Girls...
Lynda.
This is Helen and she is the all famous gal that quilts
all of Lori's beautiful quilts and most all of mine as well.
She is FABULOUS!
Kaylene is also another great longarm quilter
that joined us for the day.
Then there is my dear friend Judi
who came to learn Lori's wonderful tricks...
and my sweet friend Susann along with her
darling sister Kristy
who seemed to be moving right along.
Believe it or not...
I even parked myself long enough to give
it a try and decided that I now love applique.

Not only did we learn to applique...
but we were graced by Lori
sharing a few of her FABULOUS quilts.
Look at the incredible detail!
I love every square inch of her quilts!
This one is one of my favorites.
After a day of quilting with Lori...
we can now say we are counting our blessings...
especially of having her as our wonderful friend!
Thanks Lori... You are the best!

I love to applique and my favorite is the quilting/sewing quilt. Is it a pattern we can get from Lori? Looks like everyone was enjoying themselves. Any of those brownies left to share-yum!

I enjoyed hearing about your fun day! What a great group! When I heard about it over on Amber's blog the other day, I pulled out my 'Lori Holt box of quilt goodies' and got to work on the 'Woman's Work' quilt. I bought the pattern for it about a year and a half ago (as well as Cottage Garden and Quilter's World), collected fabrics for it, got my freezer paper templates ready and then it sat. I've had so much fun the last few days working on a few blocks and plan to set aside one day a week to work on getting that quilt done, so I can get to the other two patterns I bought and also do a Paper Dolls quilt. I love to do appliqué and absolutely love Lori's quilt patterns.

Thanks for sharing about your fun day!

I love Lori's quilt patterns, BUT...I'm too scared to try any of them!!! LOL Now...if I lived near enough to have her as a personal teacher, that might be different. Some gals are just REALLY lucky!!! :)

Hand applique and hand piecing were both once on my list of "nevers." Well, last year, I started the piecing, and after reading this post....I may just have to give the applique a try!

Rae Ann, Thanks for sharing all the fun and wonderful quilts. *sigh*, I want to do one of everything on this post...except the brownies! I need at least a dozen of those, LOL. I've already talked to Amber about showing things like that to people trying to eat 'heart healthy'! Ah well, we all need a treat don't we? I've been in touch with both Lori and Material Girls Quilt Shop in search of Lori's "A Quilters World" pattern and finally found it...Hooray! Now, I just have to wait till payday to pick one up and hope it is still in stock. (that's what happens when you are both retired and payday comes but once a month). OH, I was also wondering if you can tell where I could find a pair of those beautiful scissors shown in your header? Like Lori's quilt patterns, when I saw the scissors it was 'love at first sight'! Thanks again for all the eye candy and fun...Have a wonderful day.

Seeing you, Lori, Judi, Susann, and Kristy all together makes me want to jump through the camera and hug every single one of you.
How wonderful to have Lori a special Lori class. I'm sure looking forward to having her come her in November at Quilted Works.

I enjoy reading Lori's blog and seeing all her quilts and how she does things. Lucky you getting to take a class with her. I have a couple of her patterns but no time to try one out.

What a great post! I loved seeing Lori's quilts and putting a face to Helen - who quilted some of my quilts years ago! (I would send them to my sister to take to Helen!) Lori's talent and quilts are in a class all by themselves - her Thanksgiving quilt is one of my favs - I bought the pattern when it came out and it's still sitting on my pile - aging - maybe next year! xo, Nan
