A Birthday to Remember!

Saturday was my sweet daughter, Kimberly's birthday. We decided it would be fun to start

celebrating on  Friday, by having a girls day out, shopping at some of our favorite stores.

Kim's favorite place to go is Karma's,

a boutique gift shop

with beautiful jewelry and clothing.

She was able to find some cute things

 that she was very excited about!

Then we were off to our next favorite shop,

a local antique store we both love.

We always find some little surprise awaiting us there.

I found this vintage pillbox hat from the 1950's.

It was felted wool with rhinestones on top

and beaded rhinestone flowers around the brim.

I decided it would go nicely in my little collection.

The black hat was my husband's grandmother's .

This past summer I picked up this 1950's vintage

mink veiled pillbox hat that reminded me of

the one my mom wore when I was growing up.

I always make Kimberly her favorite cake....

Earthquake Cake!

You can see why it is called that.

Here's the recipe for those of you that would like it.

 EARTHQUAKE CAKE

1 1/2 c. pecans, chopped

1 cup coconut

1 box Devils's food chocolate cake mix

1 stick butter

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese

1 lb. powdered sugar

Grease a 9x13 inch pan.

Sprinkle pecans in bottom of pan.

Sprinkle coconut over pecans.

 Prepare cake mix according to package,

replacing the water with milk.

Pour cake mix over pecans and coconut.

Cream the butter and cream cheese together;

add powdered sugar; mix well.

Drop the mixture over cake batter in tablespoons.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Remove from oven, cool and.....

Kimberly and I first had this cake while

 sitting on the beach in Galveston Texas.

Our friend brought it chilled in a cooler.
It was so yummy and has been our favorite ever since!
