Old Home Week with the "Kennel Girls"!

Years ago I joined a local quilt guild in my old neighborhood known as the "Dog Kennel Quilt Guild". My friend Nancy started it in 1995 after she had purchased a beautiful home with an acre or two of land that had a nice cement building at the back of the lot, where the previous owner had raised dogs. Nancy, being quite a quilter, decided this would be the perfect building to house a quilt guild and that is how it got it's name!
Nancy has since moved to Boston and we no longer meet in the dog kennel, but at the member's houses instead. We miss her being with us and have fond memories of the things we learned and shared there. We still have the "Doggie Treat" classes and every time I attend one, I think of her.
A year or so ago I got involved so deeply in Family History and trying to help my great aunt, who is 90, find our family roots that I had to let some things go, and this was one of them. I stopped going to meet with this fun group of women. I know, was I nuts!
Well, just this month I decided it was time to return and it was like I had gone back for "Old Home Week". These happen to be the greatest women ever! I felt like I had never been away!
I would love to share with you some of the beautiful quilts I saw and introduce you to some of these special women!

LaRee designed and made this darling
Thanksgiving wall hanging herself!

Janey, LaRee's sister, made this
great fall quilt from a few charm packs.

She also finished this cute Christmas quilt
that had blocks that reminded me of packages.

I loved her darling snowman quilt she designed!

Jill came with quite a few projects,
like this adorable scarecrow pillow...

and the cute pumpkin wall hanging...

along with this wonderful halloween quilt!
What fun things for the fall season.

Diana brought two beautiful fall quilts
that she had made with warm autumn colors.

She did such an incredible job on both!

Jackie is showing her gorgeous quilt that she
designed and made for her daughter's Christmas.

Last, but least is Lynda! She was our
wonderful host for the month of November.
Isn't her dinosaur baby boy quilt, made
with strips of blue chenille, adorable!

I also loved the colors in her Turning Twenty quilt.
All in all, these were some fun things to bark about!
A great time had by all, thanks to Lynda!

I always wondered how they got that funny name. I never did get to their quilt show in the summer years ago, but it sure looks like a fun group. I'm glad you go to go back and that you were able to have so much fun. Thanks for sharing with us!

I'm glad the Dog Kennel gals didn't put you in the DOGHOUSE for being away from them for so long!!! LOL Their work is beautiful. I especially loved the turkey quilt. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Great show and tell! Interesting story of how the guild got its name too. All those quilts are just wonderful fall colors.

I have heard so much about Nancy and The Kennel Club. thanks for the update. I made the Joseph Smith quilt when Broadbents and Janice did their BOM.
And you are making me nervous. I just jumped back into Family History. I know it can be as addictive as quilting.
