This was the view off of the balcony of the home where we stayed. It was almost too pretty of a view to want to stay inside and quilt.
Jackie, Susann, Kristy, Judi and I all made our way down from Northern Utah and were joined by Nedra (back right) of Cactus Needle Quilts. It was my first time to meet Nedra in person. I only knew her through blogging. It's always fun to meet a blogging buddy, especially when they are as sweet as Nedra!
Nedra just happens to be the most gracious of all hosts. The first day that we were there she took us on a tour of Superior Threads, where she works. Here, we are in the classroom where you can take the School of Threadology. It teaches you about thread types and qualities and how to successfully use all of them. Be sure to check out their website to learn more. You will be soooo glad you did!
Of course....I had to fill a little basket of goods to bring home!
I bought Superior's greatest titanium machine needles...that outlast all others, a darling pattern by Alex Anderson...called Star Flowers, some silk ribbon and Superior's Masterpiece thread with prewound bobbins...wound on plastic not cardboard.
After buying some and trying it I will have to say...it is the greatest thread that I have ever used for piecing and quilting. I couldn't believe the difference!
Oh, and these darling bundles of fabrics that went so well with the fabrics at the back, that I received the week before I left on my trip. I seem to hunger after red and white, and black and white fabrics lately!
Nedra then took us upstairs and showed us the beautiful quilts they had there that showcased some of the wonderful quilting threads. Wow! I was knocked out! Believe me... these pictures do not do them justice.
This King Tut quilt was made with their beautiful threads and definitely one of my favorites!
Here a a few others. Be sure and check out the gorgeous thread colors and quilting done on these!
There simply aren't words to desribe this one.
You all know... I drooled over this 30's quilt.
All of the quilts were a work of art!
Hopefully you were able to enjoy this part of my retreat. I will be back later with more show and tell!

Wow what a great trip! Sounds like you gals had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing.
It was so fun having you here! I miss you already and can hardly wait until our next retreat.
I'd say you girls had a wonderful time, love all your goodies!!
Beautiful place....wonderful "field trip"...and can't wait for your show and tell. I'm going to a quilt show next month and I know Superior Threads is there. My machine manufacturer (as with most manufacturers) tells you to ONLY use their bobbins, so I wonder if I could use the pre-wounds??? (My machine is a Janome.) I do need to get some of those titanium needles, too.
Love the first pic of your view! Beautiful! Looks like you had a really fun time!
I love the Masterpiece thread too...will have to look for the bobbins wound on plastic now and see if they will fit my machine. I only have the cardboard and spools. You are right...it is great for piecing!
Enjoyed seeing your trip!
Oh so much fun. I love going to Nedra's!
Hi Rae Ann, Looks like you had a great time and those quilts were to die for. I love the bundles of colour, they are lovely. You must've really been suffering having to look at that lovely view, spend time stitching, sewing and enjoying yourself. Good on you. Kind regards, Anita.
Wow Rae Ann... What a fabulous time you had. I just love the view you had!!! The quilts are absolutely amazing - real masterpieces!! And of course I am very jealous of your purchases... can't wait to see what you make in the red, white and black. Glad you had a wonderful time. xx
