We all gathered at Nedra's (Cactus Needle Quilts) place in St. George. The first thing to greet us as we stepped out of the car was this beautiful flowering cactus....
with blossoms everywhere...
just waiting to bloom.
It was so beautiful with it's first bloom.
As the days went by... there were more and more...
and it kept gettting better and better...
until nearly the whole thing
was filled with the most gorgeous flowers.
Inside we were also greeted by another cactus...
a cactus pincushion that Nedra had made for us
and placed at our tables where we were to sit.
Not only that... but look what else was with it!
Wow.. I decided to nominate Nedra as the first....
"Hostess with the Quiltmostest."
Nedra wasted no time that first day,
by getting us started on our projects.
Here she is giving instructions to Nanette on how to make
the block for Gypsy Kisses/Pickle Dish.
I have to show you what Nanette brought Nedra!
Nanette is a wonderful gal and so fun to be around.
She also gave us something that will be released
at Market so I am not able to show and tell it yet!
Lori got set up and got right in to quilting.
Look at her darling 30's iron... which of course I loved!
Lori was working on her basket blocks.
They are so cute but...
not quite as adorable as Lori is!
She gave Nedra and us all her newest pattern...
"Family Reunion"... which I can't wait to make!
I have to show you this beautiful Sampler that...
Nedra made that hangs on her wall in her quilt room.
I simply fell in love with it! Samplers are everywhere
you look in her house and in every room.
Nedra made us a wonderful lunch that day and the four of us had the most amazing time any quilter could have as we sat and quilted... talked... laughed and enjoyed each other's company. I must tell you... these great women are not only great because of their quilting talents that they share... but they are "GREAT" because of who they are.
I have sewn them deep into my heart with a little
label of their own!
Please come back again and see part two... good stuff... more great people to come!

Oh, you were so lucky to be there when Nedra's cactus was in bloom...I was there once just before...but didn't get to see the gorgeous flowers! And isn't she the most wonderful hostess? So glad you were able to travel down!
I have read about this on another blog...how wonderful for you all to enjoy each other and quilting!
You guys are SOOO lucky -- I'm so jealous (but in a very happy for all of you sort of way LOL!)
Aw I'm still in vacation mode but my life is pulling at me. It was so fun. I feel like I got sewing and therapy at the same time. Thanks for all your input. You're an amazing person.
Wow you are so fortunate to be able to quilt with these quilting ladies. And to get these new patterns too!!! Oh my! You've got some incredible friends.
Rae Ann,
Your words touch me so! Having you here is what made our time so wonderful.
I feel so fortunate to know you are only a few hours drive away from my house. I think your cabin in Star Valley was where YOU earned the first Hostess with the Quiltmostest award. I felt so spoiled. My week a just a small payback for the example you have already set.
Oh my goodness, I have been reading everyones's blogs and looking at pictures, you can sure tell you girls had a wonderful time!!
Looks like a fun get together with special ladies. It's always heaven when you get to quilt with good friends.
Thanks for sharing your heavenly retreat...so many beautiful projects!
To Rae Ann...my BFF.
Thank you for being the person that you are...you are the best.
You just described Nedra to a T...she is a fabulous hostess and we had the best time didn't we?
It was so much fun to have Nanette with us on that day...she is a dear.
I will see you next week...don't forget your 8" block and recipes....:)
Happy everything,
Lori
How fun to be at Nedras. She is a wonderful hostess. I was so happy to meet and get to know you and hope we will be able to do it again next year...at least I hope this will become an annual retreat. Happy sewing...
When I read about the happenings and see the pics, I always feel part of this group and a little sad I had to miss another GTG!
Hugs - Lurline♥
What a delightful week end with such talented women. I'm crashing the party next time. LOL
I just saw that reunion quilt hanging in a shop the other day and loved it! I'm so excited that you have the pattern and can't wait to see it done (by you of course) Loved the cactus...made me a little homesick of Arizona, sniff sniff. Fun retreat!!!
First, I'm so impressed with that cactus' timing. How did it know to bloom just for you? Second, what a fun, fun group. So glad you had a nice time. And third, I love Lori's family reunion pattern. I started following her about six blocks in and couldn't wait until she was finished. It came out so amazing, like all her quilts. Can't wait to see yours! Thanks for sharing!
The excitement and joy is just oozing from you Rae Ann, what lucky girls to have such fabulous gifts and the pleasure of seeing those lovely blooms unfurl.
Shirley.
