This is it... my 30's sampler quilt
taught to me by my dear friend Kim.
This is just my 30's fabrics or what I dared to show you!
Perfect example... yesterday, my friend Susann came over and we decided to run up town for a back to my newest little Schnibbles pattern and we both came home with a whole new fabric line... enough to build a whole quilt. I said to her... "When is this going to end!" We are now known to each other as "Partners in Crime"! We just laughed and realized... we are both in trouble!
In fact... my sweet friend Judi has commented to me and others that if I was a drug dealer... we would all be in trouble. LOL!
(Oh... be sure to visit her blog now because she recently did the post with the wonderful food that I was telling you about that we had at our retreat. And if you don't mind... please leave Judi a comment too so she will keep posting her YUMMY food for us!)
So let me tell you first of all.... Thanks for all of your wonderful comments from my last post. I realize from them all that I really am NOT the only one! (I'm smiling right now!)
We all seem to love the gorgeous fabrics that line the shelves at our wonderful quilt shops and I am thankful for that. I think that is how it should be! We must be able to go in and buy something new from the latest line to help keep our interest and creativity alive and the industry well stocked.
But... now here is the clincher... we must try to eliminate some of the wonderful stuff we have at home. My thought the other day was... how are we going to do this? Then my next thought was... there must be a reason or challenge to help us want to use up some of our stash.
That's when I came up with the idea of forming a new blog... STASH MANICURE!
The idea behind this blog is to help give you a reason or challenge to eliminate some of your stash. You may ask... "Who would want to do this?" Well, the answer is... we all probably do at one time or another! The reason... maybe so we can feel a little less guilty about bringing home more new fabric every time we go to the fabric store. After all... it might be that all we needed was a simple fat quarter and we ended up coming home having spent the entire week's grocery allowance and then some. It could also be that... we might want to make space for the new fabric we have just purchased but we have run out of room in the house to put any more... except for the crawl space under the front porch or in the attic! Sound familiar?
What ever the reason... let's get started today on diminishing our fabric stashes!
Moto... Use some up... make room for more!
If you are interested in having a little challenge to help use some of your stash that you already have on hand... then please follow this link to Stash Manicure or go to the right side of my blog that says... Stash Manicure Challenge and click on my button to learn all about it.
This is going to be fun! The prize drawings that await you will be worth the challenge!

Rae Ann, You know I just love your 30s quilt and your 30s stash is too die for!! It is funny how we all continue to accumulate and our fabric never ceases to dwindle. But like you said that is the fun part!! I am not so sure that I could live up the the stash manicure, but it will be fun to watch everyone else.
Oh yes, I totally relate Rae Ann. My husband also calls me a fabric dealer!! I think a stash manicure is a fabulous idea. xo
Wonderful idea but I do have to say you have me beat! You showed just your 30's?!!! OMG...show me the other shelves! I used to buy up and stash it away and then I found in time that I didn't love it as much as I once did. I'm honestly trying and I do say trying to only purchase as I need it or fantastic sales and who can help themselves then?! Love your 30's...if I ever need some I know who to hunt down! Hee!!
Where is the link?
Gorgeous 30's quilt!
I know what you mean about the ever growing stash. I haven't bought significant fabric in over 2 years and I still haven't found the back of the cupboard. I suspect my fabric is breeding in there!
I'm convinced that fabric is an addiction:-) I have tried to reduce my stash by donating to quilt guilds for charity quilts and QOV. I agree with Mary from Quilt Hollow, I am really trying to only purchase what I need now (well trying anyway) ;-)
Beautiful quilt!!!! You have me beat on the 30's...yes you WIN!!!;-)
I have reduced my stash by donating to charity sewing events , making donation ones myself an just sharing my bounty. I did send a huge box to flood victims to Gudren a bit ago and also gave some to local gals to help build their stashes.
Did this to help my room makeover!!Yes I still buy but not in as huge amounts as before. I am TRYING to work this out with out THERAPY... hahhaha!!
Hugs,
Lola
This is my first visit to your blog, but wow, could I relate to this post! I think the running out of space was the only thing that started to get my buying under control. I still buy and somehow find the room, but I am definitely at capacity.
I am adding both this blog and the Stash Manicure blog to my Google Reader. I am already making quilts primarily from my stash, but a little extra motivation to make even more certainly won't hurt. Somehow I know that new fabric coming in won't ever stop, so must use up some of the old to make room :-).
Oh, and please show pictures of the rest of your stash. I'm sure others would love to see it as well.
Laura
Your quilt is beautiful! And what a lovely stash of 30's fabric you have! LOL! I think you will be able to make several quilts without ever making a trip to the quilt shop. :-) I like the stash manicure idea. I am doing that too.
Such a great idea. Can I come shop in your closet?
Rae Ann, sick, sick, sick, that's what I tell myself when I'm buying more fabric. I would love to be up to this challenge and come up with ideas.
I'll post about it on my blog. Love your stash of 30's prints.
Have a great weekend and Happy Easter,
Bonnie
Your quilt is gorgeous but your stash really has me drooling! LOL Love it! I see many beautiful quilts in your future. ;-) Have a great weekend!
Great idea!! Your stash looks like it would make wonderful quilts even if you just grabbed a sewed!
Oh yes, I totally relate Rae Ann. Sewing and fabric has been my life too!... your 30's stash really has me drooling, what a stash!!
Julia ♥!
Wow! That's some closet you've got there! :)
Your quilt is amazing. I can't believe that was your first!
Lovely quilt, but I really do think you need to share some of that 30's fabric.
Lovely quilt, but I really do think you need to share some of that 30's fabric.
Your 30's quilt is just beautiful! And I'm intruigued by the 'Stash Manicure,' so I'm headed over there now.
That is your first quilt??? Amazing. I keep telling my husband my stash is nothing compared to what other's have. Perhaps I'll show him your 30s stash so he'll believe me. :o)
Hi Rae Ann,
I have made a post about Stash Manicure on my blog.
Merete
that is a serious stash there, I thought that I had a lot, but my stash is quite minisucule in comparison, oooh that makes me feel feel good!!
REally enjoy your blog. Your stash is something else. LOL Your work is most beautiful, my dear friend. Thanks for sharing.
If that's just the 30s, I'd sure like to see the rest of your stash. Must be fabulous! The sampler is gorgeous, no matter when you finished it!
Count me in Rae Ann...it's a fabulous idea for a blog. I'm a big believer in using my stash and I do it all the time (of course that doesn't stop me from buying new all the time either...lol)
All of the projects that I will be bringing on retreat are cut from my stash....no new fabric purchased for them...
You are so funny. That was what our quilt group was about last week - no guilt. Our stash is precious. Love your stash!! You do make me laugh. I remember the first time I saw you when Broadbents just barely opened their quilt shop part. I thought you were incredible. Still do.
Rae Ann, Looks like you did it again. I love that first quilt Kim taught how to make. Lets make one with qor stashes!!!!
Your first quilt is just beautiful. I have seen that blog but not sure if I will join. So many other things going on.
Hello Rae Ann, I enjoyed seeing your 1930's quilt...I have a deep love of that era...ohh my not sure that I can join in the Stash Manicure.....I have been quilting from the mid eighties...and had quite a stash I had not touched for twelve months....I bundled it up and took it to the local hospital's craft group...they were estatic...Hugs Lyn
