Buried under a table was this sweet vintage
weaved hat box style sewing basket...
weaved hat box style sewing basket...
just like the one I use to own several years ago.
The only difference being...
this one had this adorable picture on top
and was in almost perfect condition.
The interior has spools that you put thread on.
I honestly can't wait to fill it!
These flour sack Sunbonnet Sue appliqued dishclothes
were the first thing to catch my eye.
I simply adore them...
and was sad to see that Wednesday was missing.
I have always been a big fan of McCoy vases
and pink just happens to be one color I don't have.
I have just the perfect spot for this beautiful one!
From previous post you may remember
that I love collecting vintage tins.
This one is another made in England.
I would love to show you what else it was that I found to give to my friends...
but it might spoil their surprise should they happen to be reading my blog this morning so I will wait and promise to show you on Monday.
All in all... antiquing was the best medicine and perfect thing to lift the spirits of a mom that had just said goodbye to her 19 year old son that would be away for two years.
He has chosen to fulfill a mission for our church.
I am going to miss this special young man of mine...
but know that he will be happy and doing good things!
Until Monday!

That sewing basket is great! I'm sorry you'll have your son gone, it's hard to see them go. It helps knowing his motivation though, huh?
Wow what treasures! Thanks for sharing and if is fun to read your blog! Thanks for the post to link my website!
I love your sewing basket. What a super find! And congratulations to your son. He sounds like a good young man.
Hi Rae Ann,
What great finds. I know the need to do something that makes you feel good. My daughter went backpacking and was away for 8 months and it is hard knowing that you won't see them for that time. Lucky that we have good phone connections and internet to keep in touch.
Thinking of you.
Love Shirley.x
How wonderful that your son has the desire to undertake this mission. You can be very proud of him! I'm glad you found what you were looking for when you went antiquing, too. Can't wait to see the rest of it on Monday's post.

What great finds! I really feel for you with your son going away. Hopefully it is not too far and you can visit.
Congratulations to you and your wonderful son.
I did this four times, three sons and a daughter, and it never got easier. But I was always comforted. I knew they were doing the right thing.
In fact, once my non-member father-in-law said, "if all young men his age would go on missions, the world would be a better place."
It is wonderful that they are doing the right thing, and when I got down, missing them, I remembered what my wise husband said to me: "this is the right thing to do, we wouldn't want to come home one day to find our 32-year-old son sitting on our couch, eating our food and watching Jerry Springer, in his underwear, now would we?
With that visual, I was able to celebrate where my children were, and be grateful.
I hope this helps you too, Rae Ann

Antique shopping is great retail therapy and I love what you found. The 2 years that your son is gone will go so fast...my son left June of 2008 and he is almost ready to come home and it seems like he just left!

What great finds, but the best treasure is in your arms. It is hard but he will be fine, he is helping God.
Rae Ann, What a sweet son and a bittersweet time. I'm sure you're so proud of him.
Thank you for my sweet little surprise I found at work today! I'm going to do my best to ration them out. :)
How cute is your basket??? I love it!
I hope you survive the mission! How great is that that he is going though. I don't look forward to those days, since I have 4 boys. I don't know if they will all go, but that is going to be hard to watch them go. Good luck Rae Ann...I will keep him in my prayers!!
Congratulations to your young missionary Rae Ann! And what wonderful antiquing finds -- that sewing basket is pretty cool!

Rae Ann, What treasures! But nothing can compare to you and your son. Well, I'm not sure about that sewing basket; it comes close. lol. I remember when my son left-bittersweet! But we wouldn't want them any other place. Luv ya! Where are these fun antiquing stores? Just wondering if they are any that I visit from time to time.
What a darling sewing basket! Great find! Are you going to DI's or real antique stores?
Where is your son going to be serving? I have one in TN right now. We pick him up June 2nd. I can hardly wait! Seems like with this 3rd son, the 2 years has been the longest!
What cute things you found...and what a cute son. I'm sure he'll be an awesome missionary! You'll be so blessed:)
